DeWys Processes
“He that idly loses 5 shillings worth of time, loses 5 shillings, and might as prudently throw 5 shillings into the river.”
-Benjamin Franklin
At DeWys Manufacturing, Inc., abide by the LEAN Manufacturing management process theory. Our executive group and team members follow two main LEAN manufacturing principles that ensure success for our customers.
The first, known as Kaizen, stresses the importance of following a continuous improvement process. This process includes the identification and elimination of waste, quality improvement, and the decrease of production time and therefore costs. By practicing LEAN Kaizen’s continuous improvement method we ensure the production of the best possible metal fabricated products at competitive pricing.
Our second element of LEAN manufacturing is the eight ‘Deadly Wastes’. We use these as guidelines to identify areas that need improvement within DeWys Manufacturing, Inc. and our metal fabrication methods.
The Eight Deadly Wastes are:
o Under-utilizing Team Member’s Mind
The team members at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc. have years of experience coupled with continuing education to expand and bring solutions to our customer’s problems.
o Overproduction
Instead of experiencing the problem of overproduction, we use the LEAN “pull” technique. This means that a product is manufactured to our customer’s order. We find no purpose in manufacturing and assembling items that will be sitting on our shelves or our customer’s shelves wasting space, crowding workers, and decreasing production space.
o Excess Transportation
Excessive movement of products through the manufacturing process wastes both time and capacity.
o Waiting
Product that is waiting for the next step takes up production space and leads to “batch” processing that should be eliminated.
o Excess Motion
Excess motion by DeWys Mfg. team members adds time and cost to customer's products process. In addition, we encourage team members to develop both the fastest and the easiest manufacturing method for them.
o Inventory
Excess inventory and inventory in general takes up space and money that increases costs. DeWys Manufacturing, Inc. works with our customer’s to produce products on a JIT basis.
o Unnecessary Processing
Too much or too little of anything is never good. We identify what each customer requires in their products and manufacture to meet their expectations. We recognize the importance of consistency and realize that it will steadily decrease the amount of waste and mistakes
o Product Defects
The efforts involved in inspecting for quality and fixing defects are constantly being eliminated at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc. Quality improvement is one of our top priorities as well as a huge tenet of LEAN manufacturing. We are ISO 9001:2000 certified and use these standards to create high-quality products every time.
