Open to all FMA company members, the FMA/CNA Annual Safety Awards recognize metal fabrication companies that adhere to excellence in safety.
Sponsored by CNA, the endorsed business insurance carrier for FMA, the Awards are designed to promote safety in the industry, and winners are selected by the FMA Safety Council. The Safety Award of Merit is given to companies posting an injury and illness incidence rate for the reporting period that is better than the published Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) rate by 10 percent or greater, based on their NAICS code.

DeWys Manufacturing Inc., a West-Michigan based metal solutions company – is pleased to announce the addition of Sara Gardner to the training team as an additional Welding Trainer / Engineer! In her new position Sara is a key contributor in training team members on process welding and manual spot weld to manage equipment, improve quality and exceed set goals for production.
Sara began her welding career at the Newaygo County Career Technical Center in high school. She continued welding at Ferris State University and recently graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering Technology in May 2020. Prior to DeWys Manufacturing Sara spent her time during school working as a welder, fabricator and weld engineering intern integrating herself into multiple sectors within the manufacturing industry. “I am very excited to take my skills and knowledge and help aid in the success of team members and bettering the experience for all stakeholders by being a resource in this supportive role!” As a weld trainer monitoring equipment and processes, Sara will work in conjunction with team leads to ensure team members are supported with proper training to keep them skilled and meet personal and professional goals. She is looking forward to making a difference in developing the team she is a part of, in addition to creating meaningful relationships. Sara says, “I believe that knowledge is power, and I find it incredibly important to be able to share your resources and knowledge.”
Outside of the DeWys Mfg. walls, Sara enjoys spending time outdoors and advancing her skills. As said by Sara, “My future goals are to continue my professional development by pursuing a masters in the direction of welding engineering, management or teaching. For now, I look forward to getting more involved with the American Welding Society and pursing additional welding certifications!” When Sara is not working, she enjoys spending time on her family’s 23-acre farm as well as hiking, gardening, kayaking, and camping with her husband.
